As you know, I love Interior Design, and know it can benefit others, when planning their space. But not everyone can afford to decorate an entire room. So, it got me thinking about what we COULD do. Anyone could make vignettes with the things they have to create a “moment” in a room. Something your eye would rest on and give you a little, “wow, that looks great” or “how cute!”
As I started thinking about this, I got excited. Even the most design challenged could make a moment in their rooms. By applying some design principles to these vignettes, you could have a great styled side table, dresser or bookshelf…wherever you want your moment to be!
So here is where I challenge you to use what you have, repurpose it if you need to. Here are several things to help pull your moment together:
- Proportion. Try to find things that fit scale-wise. If you have a small table, a large lamp that uses the entire tabletop is too large. Try a smaller lamp with smaller accessories.
- Odd number groupings. Groups of 3, 5, 7 etc..are more pleasing to the eye.
- Texture. A variety of textures add interest.
- Contrast. A variety of colors in different shades or things of different shape offer contrast.
- Life. Add life to your vignette in the form of a plant, floral arrangement, etc…
- Sparkle, AKA reflection. Things that are reflective are the jewelry of your space.
Here is an example. See how the nest and eggs fit in the cloche? They are large enough to be able to see them, but not so small that they disappear. The nest checks off a few of the things on our list. The texture of the nest is in contrast to the glass. It is also darker in color than the eggs giving it contrast of color. The glass cloche and the glass beads on the edge of the stand give us our *sparkle*. The eggs and greenery represent life.
So, here’s the deal. I would love to make these Monday’s Moments all about YOU and your vignettes. So, if you have a “Moment”, please email it to me or share it on Facebook page (links for email and FB above to the right). My goal is to make this a link up party for you. When I start getting your moments, it will give me an idea when to start this link up par-tay!
Will you share your vignettes with me and Lil Huckleberries readers? Feel free to email me and I will feature them here, on Facebook and on the Pinterest page. I am so looking forward to seeing what you create in your Monday’s Moment vignettes!

Love your vignette!! Your dining room is beautiful, unique and complete. I’m a sucker for a bit of nature incorporated into whatever I do. I’ll remember your suggestion to share our vignettes and send one to you soon. Great idea! Would love to share, too. I always do everything in odd numbers and add texture and shine, too. Your advice is spot on!

This idea of sharing vignettes will be very useful to me as I arrange the shop. I’ll be adding some of mine and would appreciate any helpful ideas for improvement. Thank you. This should really build and I’d like to share this post, also. I’ve never shared a post before and I believe this is something lots of people could use help with the design.
