We have been crazy busy with the house, so I haven’t had a chance to post often. Recently, I have had some requests for photos of the house progress. I have a couple of teasers for you and thought you might like to know how I select Interior Finishes as well. Here are my tips:
1) Decide on one thing for your room for inspiration and/or something you know you are going to have to work around. We decided to use some affordable travertine. That dictated what else was going to go on in the space and the rest of the house. Your inspiration could be a piece of fabric or your existing furniture, etc…
2) Once you decide on a finish get a sample of it…as large as you can get! If the samples are small, ask for several. When I am working on a project, I have a bin that I carry and put in the car. All of these large samples go in the bin. If I happen to be at the store and see something that might work, I can just run out to the car and get my large samples to compare.
3) Compare all of your samples in your space. The lighting is always different at stores. It amazes me how much a color can change in the room’s lighting.
4) Remember that your samples will look different in a large expanse. I waited to select anything that was costly or had a definite color, until our floors were well on their way. Because I knew that one tile was not going to be a good representation of the overall color. This especially goes for paint. I don’t ever select paint from the paint store swatches. Big swatches help you save money on paint! Talk to your designer about what is available to them.
5) Look closely for undertones. Something that has a pink undertone will look off with something that has a yellow one.
So, there you go, some photos and some Interior Finish selection tips!
