We arrived in Arizona in June. The only thing green were the cactus! Even in hot Texas, we still had lawns and flowers…so it was a shock that lawns are practically nonexistent here. But, spring has arrived in Arizona and all of those things we thought were dead are now alive! There is green everywhere. Not only that, but lots of flowers. Talk about a surprise!
With the dawn of spring here, and all those amazing spring projects on Pinterest, I was inspired to encourage spring to stay awhile. I don’t want to rush her, I would rather wait a bit to meet summer. Here is my chalkboard painted with CeCe Caldwell’s chalkpaint and actual chalkboard paint on the center.
Now to share what spring looks like in Arizona!
These are Ocotillos. They looked like dead sticks and I was positive I would have to yank them all out! But look, they ARE alive. I guess the hummingbirds love these things. I’ve already seen a few buzzing around these.
These yellow flowers are everywhere. It’s a nice break from rocks. This is the view from one part of the house.
See all of the dead leaves around the flower below? That’s how they looked when we got here. Dead. What a change spring brings!
In all of my years of having rosemary, this is the first time I have ever seen it bloom. So pretty and it smells great too. This is in our courtyard.
These flowers are interesting. They are very wispy and almost look like they would hurt if you touched them.
Has spring started to break it’s way through winter? If so, what kinds of things has spring brought your way? Has it brought some inspiration along too?

Love your little chalkboard! I spent one summer in Arizona once and it made quite an impression…such a pretty place but so wild looking (for an East coast girl). Thanks so much for stopping by chapter37 and for your kind comment!

Hi Abby, I’m sure summer in AZ would make an impression! After living a winter here, I see why people spend the winters down here. They are NICE!

Good morning, Wendy. Yes, AZ spring flowers are beautiful! I think the ocotillo in your courtyard is magnificent. Just wait til it gets leaves – after a good rain. Any wild poppies blooming yet? Have you identified any of your flowers pictured?

Hi Doris! No, I haven’t seen any wild poppies. I will have to keep an eye out, because those are some of my favorites! We had lots of rain on Saturday, so I am sure we will see the Ocotillo fill out soon. No, we haven’t sat down yet to figure out what kinds of plants we have in the yard. I’ll let you do that one the next time you are out. 😉 I have been working on getting ALL of those cabinet doors done. If only I had a huge warehouse to get them all done at once! Glad to see you here.

I’d be happy to help with plant id’s. For starters, the yellow flowered plant is Brittle Bush – a prolific wild flower the grows along roadsides and any open area that is undisturbed and blooms for a long time. The coral plume is on an Aloe plant. I’m surprised that it is even blooming, because unlike the Ocotillo, if it looks dead, it is! I noticed that Aloe last time we were there. It’s probably an old plant that was neglected for a long time and needs some TLC. The delicate pink flower is one of my favorites – Pink Fairy Duster.
