I’m happy to be able to share this fun giveaway this week! Here is my contribution to the Kick Off to Summer Week.
With Hubby’s departure just over a couple of weeks away, I planned some activities with the kids to help them prepare. I wanted to have a photo of him up so the kids can look at it whenever they were missing daddy. I thought it was fitting to make a patriotic frame and to use his official photo taken for his Change of Command three years ago.
The kiddos love to make things and really love when I have a planned project. It was so simple…we started with a piece of chip board and painted the edges black.
After the paint was dried, we Modge Podged some scrapbook paper onto the chip board. Then I found a cute little binder clip, that I drilled holes in the chipboard, to attach.
Finally, we added a piece of scrapbook paper with holes punched and attached the photo with patriotic wasabi tape to dress it up and add some patriotic flair.
We have it hung now, so my husband can see how much we will be missing him and thinking of him.
Hubby, thanks for all you do, especially the sacrifice of time away from our family. I know you will miss us as much as we will miss you!

So, I would love to hear, how do you celebrate Memorial Day? Do you have family members that are in the military or have served in the military?

Thanks Kaylin…it was really easy to make!

Hi Wendy,
This is a really cute idea. It must be very hard to say adieu to your husband. I feel for you!

Ginene,
We’re living in the moment right now. I try not to think about it. But, I can tell my middle son is really upset about it. Nothing is right for him in his life and he is just acting out everything. Makes my heart hurt for him. I’m sure his little brain can’t comprehend the upcoming absence of hubby and he definitely can’t verbalize his feelings. So, I will continue to try to make things easy for him, in hopes that it helps a bit.
One good thing for him (& the rest of us)…the pool was finished today! So, we will be able to swim this weekend!

Your husband does deserve a place of honor, Wendy. What a great tribute for him, especially for Memorial Day, as we honor all the men and women who serve. I think there should be a day for the military families, as well. Thank you for your sacrifice.
wn says
Thank you Stacy! We are so proud of him and proud to call ourselves a military family. Having known fellow spouses who have lost their love ones makes Memorial Day even more meaningful. I know that they and we are thankful when people outside of the military see the sacrifices our families make.

This is such a great idea – love it – pinned!

Thanks Summer! My favorite part was the binder clip. It’s fun to use things in an unusual manner.
