This is a project that has been going on for almost a year! So, I am so excited to cross it off my to do list and share my painted china cabinet with you today!
Here is what I started with. It wasn’t anything special, just an old china cabinet.

When I started working on this, I knew I was going to use Boxwood in Miss Mustard Seeds milk paint line. I had this color already and I LOVED it! When I started painting the china cabinet, I loved the color even more. I’m even considering using it for some accent cabinets.
I ended up using fabric for the interior. I wanted something that would make the china we had pop. So, we just Mod Podged the fabric on. If I got tired of it, I’m sure I could paint right over it. I could also pin a different fabric over it to change it for the seasons.
The fabric was a perfect match to MMS Boxwood color. I love how the fabric feels vintage in this cabinet.
The house is finally starting to come together. I knew I wanted photos of this painted china cabinet, so it motivated me to get some pictures hung up too. The pictures flanking the cabinets were made by my grandmother. My grandfather was a metal sculpture artist and he taught her how to do it. She continued on with it after he passed away. She was also an artist and she would finish the leaves by painting them. Since she has passed away, these pieces of art hold a lot of sentimental value for me.
It’s nice to finally have a fully unpacked kitchen and the dining room complete! Only a zillion more rooms to go. I really enjoy the warmth that this painted china cabinet gives the dining room.

I love the green. Is it boxwood by missmustardseed? I am doing my tiny galley cabinets in boxwood. Any advice on how to get my to look like your cabinet? Two coats? Hemp oil and wax. Did you use any resist antiquing method? Or just bonding agent to paint and finish. Sarah
Yes, the china cabinet is MMS boxwood. It’s one of my favorite colors in her line. I used the bonding agent and did not do any distressing. I did do two coats. I finished it with a clear wax, then a very light touch with antiquing wax. Make sure to come back and share your galley cabinets on our Facebook page!
Hi, I’m about to do paint my own china cabinet. Can you tell me how much paint you used. Was it just one packet of it?
I had tried to use a sample packet, but it was not enough. I ended up using a “box” of it. This was before her repackaging. I believe the larger bag is equivalent to the the box. Post pictures when you are done!

I love this! I bought one very similar last spring and have intentions to make it ore but haven’t been brave enough yet! The only thing I’ve done so far is remove the gold from the glass. You can see it here:

I can’t decide if I want to use chalk paint or venture into milk paint.
Gwen, I will have to check out how you removed the gold. I’ve used both milk paint and chalk paint. I really love how smooth and velvety the chalk paint is when it’s finished. You don’t get brush marks at all. Good luck with your project!
Oh my gosh, this piece reminds me so much of one that I looked at for years in my mother-in-law’s living room. Thank you for reminding me of the hours we spent visiting.

Just last week I bought MMS Boxwood to paint my dining room hutch and buffet with. Your project is beautiful and very inspirational. I had to Pin it and I can’t wait to get started on my own project. One question, did you use the MMS bonding agent with the paint?
Hi Jean, I am sure you will love MMS! I did use the bonding agent on the bottom half. When I was using it, I thought it smelled a lot like Elmer’s glue. So for the top half, I decided to try and save myself some money. Big mistake! It peeled off and had no adhesive properties. So, my suggestion is to use the bonding agent if you don’t want a chipping look (or in my case, peeling). I wanted full coverage and when I used the correct product, I got the result I wanted. Hope that helps! Please share your finished project!

LOVE this painted china cabinet!! I have not yet used MMSMP, but am hoping to try it out in the not too distant future. Boxwood is one of my favorite colors in the line. I saw in your reply to one of the other comments that you got the best results using the bonding agent. Did you use Dark Wax for your top coat or a different product?

Sorry for my late response. I did use a wax, but a clear wax. I had Cece Caldwells on hand, so that is what I used. It deepened the color slightly, but it wasn’t significant.
I can relate on Boxwood…I always want to paint everything green. Ha, ha!
