Last week we talked about how not everyone can afford to decorate an entire room, but we can afford to take what we have and make Moments in a room (vignettes). I like to think of these vignette in your space as a moment-something you stop and pause on, creating a moment in time.
Remember some principles we talked about that can help you to make your Moments better? Proportion, odd number groupings, texture, contrast, life and sparkle.
The moment above has a lot of sparkle with the glass and the lamp. I’ve included life, represented by the flowers. There is contrast of textures as well as just texture itself. But, this falls a little flat. Sometimes this is where the rules of three can hurt us in our displays. It needs some more for interest and to fill the space (tabletop). This is where adding some books or artwork can give your moment some depth.
Do you see what I mean now? There is some varying height and the grouping fills the space and there is a contrast in shapes. See how many rectilinear shapes there are ( dresser, books, pictures, headboard)? They are contrasted with the curve of the blue glass, shape of the artichoke and glass sphere. All of these things makes this moment more interesting.
Now, on to feature some of my readers!
Cyndi with Jackcyn Redesign sent me some of her Moments: I love the texture on this bookshelf. It’s shape so unusual and a great surprise for any room! Make sure to go like her on Facebook, she posts about a lot of different and really great things!
Next, Dana sent a link to a post all about vignettes. I love how she has used vintage drawers that provides storage AND display. The best of both worlds! (By the way, check out her home renovation. It’s amazing, and I am sure you will be inspired!)
Are you feeling like this is something you could do, or are you already a pro at styling? Send me your photos or blog link to wendy@509.design or post them on my Facebook page, so I can share them next week. I want to feature YOU and your moments!

Thank you for featuring my vignette in your Monday’s Moments. That shelf was actually made by my father-in-law years ago. It’s very rustic and fits in so many places. You really nailed that bedside styling – I love the sunflowers punched with sparkles of glass.
