I have loved fairy tales my entire life. It all started with Cinderella. I had a “wicked” stepmother, after all! (wink, wink D) What could beat that love story? Poor girl working her fingers to the bone, becomes a princess?!
In my own family, I loved to hear my grandparent’s love story. My grandmother was in Oregon for nurses training and my grandfather was stationed there in the Navy. He and his buddy followed my grandmother and her friend back to their dorm.
She said it was love at first sight. When she moved back to Montana, he soon followed, asking my great-grandfather for permission to marry his daughter.
My uncle and I were joking about how shocked my great-grandfather probably was. They were all fair haired, blue eyed Norwegians and here comes my Grandfather: tall, dark and handsome.
I remember them celebrating their 50th anniversary. They still acted like kids in love, holding hands and my grandmother giggling at my grandfather. So cute!
All of these memories of love stories were spurred by our camping trip last week. Right outside our cabin was a plaque hanging on the tree. I thought it was some listed “rules” of the campground. So, I was so surprised to see this!
In the Spring of ‘53
Underneath this very tree
I asked Pauline to marry me.
She saw this ring and squealed
EEEEE…
It’s been super years, now 25.
Full of love and joy to be alive.
Four fine children God has given.
This land and live we’ve been striven.
Now we go on together,
praising him!
I love this. I love the fact that a man wrote this poem in the first place AND made a little plaque out of it and put it where he proposed to his love. I hope that some day in the future, my kids can recall great memories about the love they have seen during their lives.
What is your favorite love story?

Wendy, I giggled when I read the “wicked” stepmother in your story. I am honored that you added me to your story! Hehehe. It was ment in a loving way right???? Lol I have many many found memories when I became apart of your family. Remember when I would read each of you one bedtime stories and jake ALWAYS picked the story about OGGIE the bug??? Do you recall when I took the trainers off that pink bike and ran behind you all the way down grandmas driveway? I LOVE YOU TOO WENDY!! You, your brother and I have our own love story.
I enjoy, very much, reading your blog and how special your life and family is. :-). It makes me smile to see you and yours so happy with life. Always much love from your “wicked”stepmother.

So funny Debbie! My husband actually asked if you would be offended. I told him, “no, that you always referred to yourself as the wicked stepmother” jokingly, of course!!! 😉
Your comment is so sweet…thanks!
