Exterior Paint Color Schemes

April 3, 2014 by Wnolan

Since we have started focusing some energy on the backyard, I thought I better get thinking about exterior paint colors.  We have some things that are fixed, that will help determine the colors we go with.

Number one, the travertine tile that will cover the patio floor, has a pinky/purple undertone.  Then the window frames are bronze.  Finally, the posts will be stained a dark walnut color.

In the scheme above, Rolling Pebble is the house body color.  Sculptor Clay is the patio ceiling color, and possibly the garage doors.  Intellectual represents the bronze window frames and Smokey Slate and Heather Plume represents accent colors.  (Furniture, upholstery, etc…)

In this scheme, Martha Stewart Bayou is the body.  It has gray, green undertones that will compliment well with the travertine.  Fossil is the garage doors, and Artichoke Heart is the patio ceiling.  Intellectual again represents the window frames and Sunken Pool and Geyser are accent colors used in furniture, fabrics and accessories.

For both schemes I am drawn to a body color that has a green undertone.  Both will be complimentary to the travertine used on the back patio and also in the courtyard.  Because the house is stucco and was built in the 70’s, there is no opportunity to do any accent colors other than the patio ceilings.  So, my accent colors will have to come in the forms of furnishings and accessories.

What do you think?  Which scheme would you use?  Would you mix and match any colors?  What colors have you used for your exterior paint color schemes?
