This last weekend, hubby was working in the garage. I walked out and voila…garage storage! We live in Arizona where there are no basements. You wouldn’t think it was an issue, because we just moved from Texas, where basements are not common either. But, hubby had outfitted our attic with an amazing storage solution.
So here we are in AZ, with no basement and no attic! My husband mentioned we needed to clear out some things. But, I wasn’t going to get rid of Christmas ornaments or holiday decorations and buy new every year. I think when I mentioned those things, he realized, we were still going to have a storage issue, even if we thinned down our “stuff”.
Luckily, our garage has tall ceilings, and there was another thing…when we renovated the house, we knew we needed to maximize storage. We were already adding an addition for a master bedroom and office, so we decided to extend our garage eight feet out towards the driveway. This gave us an additional eight feet of wall space and allows us to have some deeper storage in front of the cars.
My husband had described some storage solution he wanted to make. I wasn’t very supportive of the idea, because the example he used, from what I had seen, was very crude solution. I was pleasantly surprised to see what he built…not at all the example he had given me. I was pretty happy that they looked decent. If only, I could talk him into using some nice bins to corral all that stuff!
Not bad, huh? He said it was really easy and he used scrap plywood that we had. I can tell you those cabinets were a *bit* more expensive! So, he’s happy with this garage storage. I’ll just pretty it up, when we paint the garage. 😉
What kinds of things do you do to make better use of your storage? Have you made a system that works well? Please share!

Where did you get the black cabinets with diamond plate patterned doors? And can you share how you cut and assembled those large shelves above? Great way to get all those boxes out of the way!

Joseph, I will have to ask my husband to take some photos of how he constructed the garage storage. The wall cabinets are actually Gladiator cabinets that work with a slot wall system. I have seen them at Lowes and Sears. It really does make good use of all that space near the ceiling!
