Yesterday we visited the Sonoran Desert Museum. Last summer during a visit to the museum, the boys bought me a hummingbird feeder for my birthday. So, we had to make our first stop the Hummingbird aviary. Turns out everyone in our family loves these tiny creatures; my husband included.
Well, we were in luck yesterday. There were actually hummingbirds sitting on their nests. The docent was standing close by to ensure that us excited humans did not get to close.
It got me thinking about the wonders of God. The docent had a specimen of hummingbird eggs, to give us an idea of their size. What a great creation, that an animal, that when hatched, is less than an inch in size, is blind, and has no feathers to regulate it’s temperature, could survive this world!
It reminds me of one of my favorite verses. Matthew 6:26.
Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?
He loves all of his creation, but we hold a special place. I will have to hold onto this verse firmly in the next couple of years, with my husband’s upcoming retirement from the military, and try not to worry.
What are the little things that bring you comfort? Do you find certain animal and their survival incredible?
