Boy’s Room Before

January 18, 2014 by Wnolan

I’ve been brainstorming Oldest son’s room this last month for the new house.  I thought I would share what his room looked like while we were in Texas…kind of like a before!  It was a great young boy room, but I feel like it’s time for his room to catch up with him.  He seems like he is such a big boy now.  He can reason and converse like an adult.  I figure it’s time to give him a room that reflects his move towards the teenage years.  Gulp.

Airplane Boy’s Room. Perfect for a little boy.

When originally planning his room, I found some vintage airplane advertisements for inspiration.  I think every pilot’s son has an airplane theme room at least once in their lives!   Then I found metal airplane replications for accessories  Such torture for a little boy!  He didn’t understand the concept of for decoration only.  Take a peek at the drapes…those were DIY made out of sheets!  All I did was fold over the bottom edge to make a rod pocket.  EASY!

Vintage airlines artwork was hung throughout the room.

I knew I wanted a red bed for his boy room.  I searched for over six months for one.  I finally stumbled upon this one on Ebay when I was searching for something else!  I would have never thought to check Ebay for furniture.  It is not the best quality, but it has held up surprisingly well for a rough and tumble boy.  There is a little paint scratched off from where the ladder sits.  I still love this bed.  It has great styling that will work for a long time.  The new room is planned with this bed in mind.

Red boy’s bed works well in this room and is the inspiration for his new room.

The new plan involves his favorite color, blue.  His new room is a little smaller, so we will be making a shelving unit to help with the needed storage.

So there it is, a before of his boy room some sort!

How have you transitioned your rooms to grow with you or your children?  How often do you change your rooms?

What an excellent room! I love the vintage-feeling airplane theme, and that bed is perfect. Amazing that you found it on eBay, of all places.

I’ve been in the same room for the past eight years, with very few decor changes. 11 to 19. . . I’m surprised my taste hasn’t changed more. I still like the pink walls, lol

The room looks amazing! The airplane theme is excelent. I think every little boy would love. Do you already have a theme in mind for the new room?

Joanna, I am going to try to avoid a theme this time to allow him to grow into it. I don’t want to limit what he can add to his space. 😉

Hi. Oh, how I can relate. I have a grown son who went through many room transitions, including an airplane themed and now a young teen daughter who recently left the bunkbed stage and is constantly updating it. I love vintage and diy so should be so much fun following you from our SITS Girls Tribe.
