Before & After Gorgeous Mid Century Kitchen Remodel

April 13, 2020 by Wnolan

Project: Kitchen

Location: Spokane, Washington

Cost of project: $46k

Our goal was to take a previously dark, cramped, disconnected kitchen and transform the space to fit our client’s Mid Century home. Amidst a trend of white kitchens, we opted for stained wood cabinets that coordinated with all of the existing woodwork.

A separating wall and awkward buffet niche were removed to enlarge and connect the kitchen to the dining and living.  The support beam was sistered in the ceiling to avoid dividing the space in half with an exposed beam. To conserve cost, a new cabinet layout added much needed storage space and maintained the sink and range location.

We converted the range wall into the kitchen’s focal point, introducing a costly mosaic accent tile into the backsplash. Adding to the focal point are floating wood shelves, custom milled for this project.  The shelves were installed over the windows, which allowed us to maximize our window space, flood the room with natural daylight, and provide a connection to the backyard.

In order to accommodate the client’s love for entertaining, a custom wine rack was created to provide storage and avoid sacrificing any of the needed cabinet space.  In this manner, the wine bottles became an art display.  Adjacent to the wine niche, a wipe board wall was created to act as this busy family’s command center.  It has also become a fun feature where guests share their thoughts.

The floating LVP floor allows the clients to refinish the existing wood should they decide to in the future. The floor provides an interesting contrast to the cabinets and coordinates with the backsplash.

A beautiful quartz countertop tied the whole room together, the creamy pattern coordinated with the backsplash and lightened and brightened the space.
